Terra Classic in Taiwan: LUNC, TWD and the rules in between

No FSC-registered Taiwanese exchange lists LUNC, and there is no TWD pair anywhere. Taiwanese holders price it in TWD, buy USDT locally and trade offshore, while a new licensing law waits to take effect.

Why Taiwan is a special case for LUNC

Taiwan has a busy, well-run crypto market, yet Terra Classic sits completely outside it. The two largest FSC-registered exchanges, MAX and BitoPro, do not list LUNC, and no other registered platform shows up among the LUNC markets tracked by CoinGecko. So when Taiwanese readers search for “lunc 幣” or “幣安 lunc”, they are really asking about an offshore trade. Binance is the name that comes up again and again in local searches, and it is not registered in Taiwan.

The second thing that sets Taiwan apart is timing. The country is between two regimes. The rules in force only require anti-money-laundering registration, but a full licensing law, the Virtual Asset Service Act, passed the Legislative Yuan on 30 June 2026 and is waiting for an effective date. Once it applies, offshore exchanges that court Taiwanese users without a license will be breaking the law. That matters for anyone who plans to hold LUNC on an offshore account for years.

Local search habits also tell a story. Alongside the price, Taiwanese users look up burns (“lunc 燒毀”), the coin’s future (“lunc 未來”), the blunt “lunc 幣 還 有救 嗎” (can LUNC still be saved?) and even the Jane Street lawsuit. This page covers the local angle: rules, venues, TWD pricing, tax and a sensible route. For the bigger questions, we link to our deeper guides as we go.

FSC rules and the new Virtual Asset Service Act

Taiwan’s crypto supervisor is the Financial Supervisory Commission (金管會), working through its Securities and Futures Bureau. Under the Money Laundering Control Act, a virtual asset service provider must complete AML registration (洗錢防制登記) before serving the public. The bureau’s own page is explicit: operators that have not registered may not provide virtual asset services. Registration is about anti-money-laundering controls. It is not a full operating license, so we describe the firms as “AML-registered”, never as “licensed”.

The FSC registration list we checked, dated 28 October 2026, names 11 registered VASPs: HOYA BIT, ZONE Wallet, KryptoGO, MaiCoin/MAX, TWEX, Chainss/Atrix, BitoPro, XREX, TSG EX, Liminal and BitstreetX. ACE is not on it. Binance, OKX and Bybit are absent too, and in December 2025 the FSC said no foreign exchange had even applied.

The Virtual Asset Service Act (虛擬資產服務法) passed its third reading on 30 June 2026, but it is not in force. The Executive Yuan sets the effective date, and the law takes effect together with nine subordinate regulations. FSC chair Peng Jin-lung has said the earliest realistic start is the first quarter of 2027. We found no promulgation or effective-date record yet, so treat any article that calls the act “live” with caution.

When it does apply, existing registrants get 12 months to apply for a license and 21 months to obtain one, with one possible three-month extension. An FSC official has also said that unlicensed solicitation of Taiwanese users becomes illegal once the act is in force. For LUNC holders, the practical message is simple. The offshore venues that list Terra Classic sit outside Taiwanese protection now, and they may face tougher treatment later.

Where LUNC trades for Taiwanese users

We checked the public market lists of the two biggest registered exchanges directly, then cross-checked the rest against CoinGecko’s full list of LUNC tickers. The result is clear: there is no LUNC market on any FSC-registered platform we could find, and no LUNC/TWD pair anywhere in the world.

The offshore exchanges that do list LUNC are the familiar global names: Binance (LUNC/USDT, LUNC/USDC and 1000LUNC futures), Bybit, KuCoin, Gate, MEXC, Bitget, HTX, Kraken and the Crypto.com Exchange. Watch the ticker. On Kraken, Terra Classic still trades under its old name “LUNA”, while on Binance and OKX “LUNA” means Terra 2.0, a different coin worth roughly a thousand times more per unit. OKX dropped LUNC entirely in September 2025. Our LUNC exchange list keeps the full venue picture, including delistings.

One more check before you commit money: Binance’s LUNC withdrawals were paused for “wallet maintenance” when we last looked. Buying a coin you cannot move off an exchange is a risk in itself, so confirm the withdrawal status on the venue before you buy.

Pricing LUNC in TWD

Because no LUNC/TWD market exists, every Taiwanese dollar price is a calculation. The source is the LUNC/USDT price on large exchanges, multiplied by the USD to TWD rate. The converter at the top of this page does exactly that with live data, and our LUNC price page shows the chart, market cap and volume. LUNC is priced in tiny fractions of a NT dollar, so it helps to think in round blocks of coins rather than single units.

Here is a labeled example with a made-up round price. If LUNC were worth NT$0.001, then 1,000,000 LUNC would be NT$1,000, and NT$10,000 would buy about 10 million LUNC before fees. Real costs stack on top: the spread when you buy USDT with TWD, the network fee to move USDT offshore, the exchange’s trading fee and, if you send LUNC on-chain, the 1.5% Terra Classic tax. Use the LUNC converter for live TWD numbers instead of copying any figure you see on social media.

LUNC has no TWD pair, so local prices are always converted from USDT markets.

TWD on-ramps and P2P honesty

The common local route starts on a registered exchange. You deposit TWD by bank transfer on MAX or BitoPro, buy USDT, and withdraw that USDT to an offshore exchange that lists LUNC. The first leg is inside Taiwan’s AML system. The second and third legs are not. Pick the right network for the USDT transfer, send a small test amount first, and keep records of every step for tax purposes.

Binance P2P in TWD is used in practice too, but it carries risks that people tend to underestimate. You are paying a stranger’s bank account, and Taiwan’s banks and police take fraud seriously. A payment linked to a scam, even unknowingly, can get your own account frozen, and lending or renting a bank account to others can expose you to money-mule liability. If you use P2P at all, use only your own named account, never move funds for someone else, and walk away from deals that feel rushed.

A card route also exists. CEX.IO accepts Taiwanese residents through CEX OVRS LLC, a company registered in St Kitts and Nevis that holds no Asian license and is not FSC-registered. It takes Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay and Google Pay after verification, and a TWD card is converted at your bank’s rate. CEX.IO does not list LUNC, so it can only supply USDT or BTC for the next step. For a full walkthrough, see how to buy LUNC.

Burns, Binance and the “還有救嗎” question

Taiwanese searches about LUNC’s future usually come back to the burn. The facts are these. The post-crash supply peaked at about 6.907 trillion LUNC in May 2022. Total supply is now around 6.44 trillion, so roughly 462 billion LUNC, or about 6.7%, has been removed. The on-chain tax has been 1.5% since proposal 12223 passed on 2 August 2026, with 1.2 percentage points burned and the rest split between the community pool and the oracle pool. Governance can change that rate again by vote. Our burn tracker shows the live totals.

The “幣安 lunc” searches are about Binance’s monthly burns. Binance burns LUNC from its trading fees in batches. A recent batch was 334.88 million LUNC on 1 October 2026, bringing its cumulative total to more than 87 billion by on-chain count. The Binance burn page tracks the history.

Is the coin “saveable”? Burns are real, but at the current pace they shrink a 6.4-trillion supply very slowly, and price depends on demand far more than on burns. We cover the honest case in will LUNC recover and the scenarios in our price prediction guide. On the Jane Street keyword: the Terraform Labs plan administrator sued Jane Street on 23 February 2026, alleging insider trading around the May 2022 depeg. Jane Street calls the suit baseless, and no ruling had been found. The crypto-loss claims window has closed, so holding LUNC now gives you no claim.

Tax basics for Taiwanese holders

Taiwan has no special crypto tax code, but occasional gains on virtual currency that is not a security are generally treated as property-transaction income (財產交易所得) within your comprehensive income tax. The taxable gain is the sale price minus your cost and expenses. That means you need records: the TWD you paid for USDT, the USDT you spent on LUNC, fees, and what you received when you sold.

Two points are less clear. We could not confirm how gains made on offshore exchanges are treated under the alternative minimum tax, or how reporting works when the platform is not Taiwanese. With LUNC, the amounts can also swing hard both ways. Ask a Taiwanese tax adviser before filing, and export your trade history from every exchange you use while you still have access.

A practical route, step by step

If you decide to buy, keep the route short and keep control of your coins at the end. The steps below assume you accept the offshore risk explained above. Check every venue’s terms for Taiwanese residents before you sign up.

  1. Get USDT in TWD terms

Buy USDT on an FSC-registered exchange such as MAX or BitoPro by bank transfer, or by card on a global on-ramp.

  2. Choose a LUNC venue

Pick an exchange with a liquid LUNC/USDT market and confirm that LUNC withdrawals are open.

  3. Send a test amount

Move a small amount of USDT first, on the network both platforms support, then send the rest.

  4. Buy LUNC and check the ticker

Trade LUNC/USDT. On Kraken the ticker is “LUNA”; on Binance, “LUNA” is Terra 2.0.

  5. Withdraw to your own wallet

Send LUNC to a native Terra Classic wallet such as Galaxy Station or Keplr. Your keys, your coins.

For the last step, our LUNC wallets guide explains which apps still work. MetaMask cannot hold native LUNC, and Terra Station’s Classic backend is down. If you want to earn on idle coins, the staking guide explains the real yield, which is around 2% a year net, not the double-digit figures some wallets display, plus the 21-day unbonding period.

Looking at nearby markets helps too. In Hong Kong, the SFC limits retail investors to large-cap tokens on licensed platforms. Japan has no FSA-registered exchange that handles LUNC, and the Philippines has pulled offshore apps from its stores. The Asia hub compares all 11 markets side by side.

Our take on LUNC in Taiwan

FAQ

Can I buy LUNC on MAX or BitoPro?

No. We checked the public market lists of both exchanges and neither has a LUNC market. MAX showed 88 markets and BitoPro 35 trading pairs, none of them Terra Classic. Both are useful for turning TWD into USDT, but the LUNC trade itself happens on offshore exchanges.

Is Binance registered in Taiwan?

No. Binance, OKX and Bybit do not appear on the FSC list of 11 AML-registered virtual asset service providers. Once the Virtual Asset Service Act takes effect, offshore platforms that solicit Taiwanese users without a Taiwanese license will be acting illegally, according to FSC officials.

Is the LUNC coin (lunc 幣) still worth saving, or is it finished?

The chain still runs, governance still passes proposals and about 462 billion LUNC has been removed from the post-crash peak supply. That does not make it a good investment: the supply is still around 6.4 trillion coins and the price sits far below 2022 levels. Our will-LUNC-recover guide weighs both sides.

How much LUNC has been burned (lunc 燒毀)?

Total supply has fallen from about 6.907 trillion LUNC after the crash to roughly 6.44 trillion, so around 462 billion LUNC is gone. The on-chain tax is 1.5 percent, of which 1.2 percent is burned, and Binance burns LUNC from its trading fees in monthly batches. Our burn tracker shows the live totals.

How are LUNC gains taxed in Taiwan?

Occasional gains on virtual currency are generally treated as property-transaction income inside your comprehensive income tax, calculated as sale price minus cost and expenses. How gains made on offshore exchanges interact with the alternative minimum tax could not be confirmed, so ask a Taiwanese tax adviser.

Is there a LUNC to TWD trading pair?

No exchange anywhere offers a LUNC/TWD pair. Every TWD price you see is calculated from the LUNC/USDT market and the USD to TWD exchange rate, which is what our converter does. To trade, you go through USDT.
